Ballarat CBD service station upgrade begins

The busy Shell service station at the Drummond Street and Sturt Street corner will have limited capacity until at least mid-May as major upgrade works are carried out.

A full pump replacement program is under way, according to a spokesperson from Viva Energy, Shell’s franchise contractor.

The upgrade includes a full set of new pumps, including diesel at all filling positions, the spokesperson confirmed – currently, there is only diesel available from two positions.

Out of these 12 new diesel nozzles, two will be high-flow for commercial vehicles on the outer lane.

A new fuel line will also be introduced, a 95 octane petrol.

The existing lines will be replaced, moving from the current galvanised steel standard to Universal Petro Pipe.

Works are expected to be completed by mid-May.

Several other petrol stations across Ballarat are in the process of being re-branded, with the return of the Ampol brand replacing many existing Caltex service stations.

It’s believed a new service station may be under construction on Ballarat-Carngham Road.
